Cricket grounds below the ICC minimum boundary

Clause 19.1.3 of the ICC's playing conditions sets one minimum for every boundary: 65 yards from the centre of the pitch, or 59.44 metres. It sets a maximum too, 90 yards or 82.29 m. There is no separate rule for the straight boundary and none for the square — a single figure applies in all directions.

Thirty-two of the 122 grounds recorded here have a boundary under that minimum. That is not a list of grounds breaking a rule. Clause 19.1.4 exempts any ground already approved for international cricket that cannot conform, which is precisely what most of these are — old, hemmed in by a city, or shared with another sport.

The shortest is Molyneux Park in Alexandra at 50 m, 9.44 m inside the minimum. Ropes also move between fixtures, so a figure below the line on one day may sit above it on another; these are typical positions, not the rope at any given match.
